Community-led, not interpreted
We do not recreate, adapt, or take from cultural forms without authorship and permission. The work exists to support, reinvest, and return value directly to the people whose histories and identities it represents.
A Declaration of Remembrance
A cultural fashion system rooted in memory, dignity, and connection across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Diaspora.
Thei Mark carries remembrance forward through garment, symbol, and practice.
Community-Led Authorship
First People is a community-led collection within Thei Mark of a Free Mind. All designs are created by Indigenous artists and communities. Nothing is interpreted — only authored.
We do not recreate, adapt, or take from cultural forms without authorship and permission. The work exists to support, reinvest, and return value directly to the people whose histories and identities it represents.
All designs carry authorship, origin, and context. Revenue from the collection is shared directly with contributing artists and communities through structured agreements and reinvestment.
Nothing about them without them.
Nothing from them without return.
Brand Practice
Thei Mark of a Free Mind works through authorship, transformation, permission, connection, compensation, and return. These are not decorative claims. They are operating rules.
Contributors remain the authors of their work. Origin, artist, maker, and community are credited where appropriate and approved.
We do not reproduce or imitate source material. Any reference to historical, cultural, or community-derived material must be meaningfully transformed.
Where work belongs to a person, culture, estate, or community, it is used only with permission from the appropriate rights holder or knowledge holder.
Meaning is not stripped from source. Work must remain connected to its origin and context without extraction, distortion, or misrepresentation.
Across cultures, nature has carried spiritual, historical, and ancestral meaning. Thei Mark recognises these connections with respect, never as decoration, but as part of a wider relationship between memory, land, belief, identity, and the living world.
Contributors are paid through upfront fees, royalties, revenue-sharing structures, or a combination agreed before use.
Where work has community or shared cultural origin, value should return through payment, royalties, reinvestment, or agreed community benefit.
Open Call
Thei Mark of a Free Mind is being built as an authored platform. Different collections call for different forms of contribution, but every contributor should be credited, protected, and compensated.
We are accepting expressions of interest across core garments, statement graphics, textile work, ethical production, and community-led design.
This is not interpretation. It is authorship.
All contributors work under a written agreement covering authorship, licence scope, attribution, compensation, cultural protection, termination, and governing law.
Where any design references historical, cultural, or community-derived material, use must be transformative, permitted, and connected to its origin.
